How to repair a broken Wendt & Kuhn Angel wing
Knowing how to repair a broken Wendt & Kuhn angel wing the correct way can save that piece of your collocation from being the runt of the pick. This is a process that should never be rushed or hurried in any way. The slightest mistake can be disastrous.
The very first thing you need to do is to get a piece of white paper and careful place not only your angel and the broken pieces on it but also the paint chips, if any that might have been created when the wing broke off.
The white paper allows you to clearly see the different components that need to be reassembled. The next step is to get your super glue and tweezers. Elmer’s wood glue can be a substitute but it is not preferred because it is not as strong nor will it dry and harden quickly. The tweezers cannot be replaced by needle nose pliers. The pliers have a hard and grooved surface that will damage the wings finish and cause your repair job to be not worth the time you invested in it.
The very next step is to grab your magnifying glass and take a close look at the joint that broke. Mentally place the broken wing back in the figurine. Then actually take the wing and place it on without placing too much weight on the new joint. This will prevent any new chipping or breaking of the wooden fibers that might be delicately holding on.
Look at the joint and how the wing would fit in place again. Since it is almost impossible for the break to be completely clean, the way it was broken will have to be observed. Sometimes the wing will be best placed on the angel by sliding it into place. What is important is for you know the best way to replace the wing on the figurine so no additional damage is done during the repair job.
Then next step is very important. Squeeze a little of the superglue out of the tube. Make sure this is not pointing toward the angel at all. This is the practice to see if you can control the flow of the glue out of the container. If you find you cannot, place a drop on a toothpick. This is how you can control the amount of glue that will be placed on the figurine.
Place just enough glue to make the joint seal. If any squishes out, it will affect the paint so never over do it with the glue. After the wing is in place hold firmly for 30 seconds to ensure the joint is sealed. Then release carefully. Allow the repaired angel to sit for a full hour just to make sure. It is ok to look at the angel thru the magnifying glass, just be careful not to touch it.
If you are not happy with the job, you can always remove the super glue with acetone or fingernail polish remover. Just remember this will also remove the paint. This is also the best way to get your fingers unstuck if you super glue them together by accident.
This is how to repair a broken Wendt & Kuhn angel wing for the best possible results.
